MEA - Middle East Airlines

Mit einer Boeing 720B (OD-AFZ) eröffnete diese Fluggesellschaft aus dem Libanon am 12. August 1973 einen regelmässigen Liniendienst zwischen Beirut und Berlin. Diese Flüge wurden jedoch schon zum Ende des Jahres 1975 wegen der Bürgerkriegsunruhen in diesem Land eingestellt.

Einen neuen Anlauf startete MEA dann am 04. Juni 1991 mit der Wiederaufnahme des Flugverkehrs. Trotz guter Auslastung, so kam speziell in den Sommermonaten Grossraumfluggerät vom Typ Boeing 747 zum Einsatz, entschied die Geschäftsführung, diese Route zum Ende des Winterflugplans 1997/1998 einzustellen.

Die Ära Middle East Airlines in SXF endete somit am 26. März 1998 mit dem Abflug eines Airbus A321-200 (F-OHMQ) nach Beirut.

With a Boeing 720B (OD-AFZ) this airline opened a regular line service between Beirut and Berlin on August 12th.1973. However, these flights were already cancelled in late 1975 because of the civil war in this country.

MEA started a new attempt on June 04th.1991 with the resumption of the line service then. Despite good utilization, so especially in the summer months larger planes of the type Boeing 747 came into action, the management decided to cancel this route at the end of the winter-schedule of 1997/1998.

And finally the era Middle East Airlines at Berlin/SXF came to an end, with the departure of an Airbus A321-200 (F-OHMQ) to Beirut on March 26th.1998.
